Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment, commonly known as “braces,” provides you or your child with the opportunity to have a straight, beautiful smile. This type of therapy has usually been focused on children, as a way to straighten teeth during their development. However, the last decade has shown a trend of adults seeking to achieve realigned teeth, not only to improve their image but also for health reasons. I have provided this service for many adults and children throughout my career and could help you, too.

Braces are tiny metal or clear brackets, individually bonded onto the teeth with adhesives to keep them in place. With the help of wires and elastics, we can redirect the teeth into proper alignment and arch-form.

If you have one or more of the following, a consultation for orthodontic treatment is highly recommended:

  • Crowded teeth.
  • Undesirable gaps between teeth.
  • Overbite.
  • Protruded teeth and/or jaw.
  • Missing teeth.
  • Lack of symmetry of the face.
  • Headaches.
  • TMJ symptoms.
  • Breathing problems.

Orthodontics can do so much more than just straighten your teeth. It can help in the treatment of headaches and TMJ problems. Both of these are mainly due to bite irregularities and severe wear, causing many of the muscles of the head to overwork themselves. The consequence is the onset of headache symptoms. Many patients contact us as a last resort to address their problems. As the patient’s bite is reorganized into the right position, muscle strain is alleviated, therefore correcting the source of the headaches.

When children and teenagers are treated, we plan the outcome to be one of great stability. Many of our patients undergo treatment without the need for extractions, providing a beautiful smile, versus one that is collapsed as seen in treatments done in past decades. This allows for the jaw to have great balance and avoids locking of the jaw. This, in the long run, avoids the occurrence of TMJ problems.
